1. Acceptance of these terms

By registering a player account, buying a play or otherwise using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), the provincial Crown corporation that conducts and manages Daily Grand in British Columbia and operates this portal; "you" means the player. BCLC is the party you contract with, and its registered address is given in section 34.

These terms apply alongside the national game rules and the player documents listed in section 2. Where they conflict, section 2 says which one applies.

2. Order of precedence

Where two documents conflict, the higher one in this list wins:

  1. The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) Daily Grand Game Conditions (the national game rules);
  2. Any supplemental conditions issued by BCLC for British Columbia;
  3. The BCLC Player Agreement and the PlayNow.com terms of use;
  4. These Terms & Conditions;
  5. Any other content on this site, including FAQs, guides and summaries.

The game rules and the player documents above set the entitlements attaching to a play and a prize; these terms govern everything else about your account and your use of this site. No summary, FAQ or guide published here overrides these terms.

3. Eligibility

Daily Grand in British Columbia is open only to individuals who:

  • are 19 years of age or older;
  • are ordinarily resident in British Columbia; and
  • are physically located in British Columbia at the time they register and at the time they play.

The following persons may not play Daily Grand or claim a Daily Grand prize: our directors, officers and employees and those of ILC; employees of the lottery-system suppliers, draw auditors and independent draw witnesses engaged for the game; and members of the same household as any of those persons. This is a prohibition, not a discretion. A play bought in breach of it is void, and any prize on it will not be paid.

Anyone currently enrolled in Game Break, B.C.'s voluntary self-exclusion program, may not play for the duration of their exclusion.

4. Accounts

A player may hold one account only, in their own legal name, with accurate and current details. Accounts may not be opened for, transferred to, shared with or operated on behalf of another person. You are responsible for everything done through your account, and for keeping your login credentials confidential. Tell us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.

5. Identity verification (KYC)

Before you can play or withdraw funds, your identity, age and British Columbia residency must be verified using valid government-issued identification. Verification may be repeated at any time, and additional documents may be requested — for example if your details change, if a large prize is claimed, or where required by law.

Until verification is complete, an account may be restricted and funds may be held. Where verification cannot be completed, the account will be closed and any deposited balance returned to its source, less any amounts lawfully withheld.

6. Anti-money laundering & source of funds

Lottery operators in Canada are reporting entities under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act. We are required to identify players, keep prescribed records, and report large cash transactions, large virtual-currency transactions and suspicious transactions to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC). These reports are made without notice to you, and you will not be told that one has been filed — the law prohibits it.

We may at any time ask you to evidence your source of funds or source of wealth, and may restrict deposits, play, withdrawals or the whole account until a satisfactory answer is received. Refusing or failing to provide the evidence requested is grounds for closing the account under section 20.

7. Buying plays

Each Daily Grand play costs $3 and consists of five main numbers (1–49) and one Grand Number (1–7). The optional Extra add-on costs $1 per play. You decide how many plays to buy, within any limits you have set yourself and any limits we apply.

A play is only entered into a draw once payment has been accepted and the play has been recorded on our central gaming system. The record on that central system is the only authoritative record of a play. A confirmation screen, email, screenshot or printed slip is not proof of a valid play if it does not match the central system.

A play cannot be cancelled, amended or refunded once it has been accepted, except where these terms or the Game Conditions expressly say otherwise.

8. Draws, cut-off & results

Draws are held every Monday and Thursday, shortly after 7:30 PM Pacific Time. Online sales close at 7:21 PM PT on draw days. A play entered before the cut-off is included in that day's draw; a play entered afterwards goes into the next draw.

Official results are published after each draw and prevail over any other source, including the countdowns and summaries shown elsewhere on this site. Any figures, dates or numbers on this site that are described as examples or demonstrations are exactly that, and must never be relied on to check a win.

9. Cancelled, delayed or rescheduled draws

A draw may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled — for example because of equipment failure, a system outage, a regulatory direction or an event outside anyone's control. If that happens:

  • A delayed or rescheduled draw is conducted as soon as practicable. Plays already entered stay valid and are entered into that draw; they are not moved to a different draw and are not refunded.
  • If a draw is cancelled outright and cannot be conducted, the plays entered for it are void and the amount paid for those plays is refunded to the account they were bought from. A refund of the purchase price is the only remedy; no other compensation is payable.
  • If a draw is conducted but its result is later invalidated under the Game Conditions, the affected plays are treated as if the draw had been cancelled, and any prize paid on the invalidated result may be reclaimed.

10. Prizes & validation

There are nine prize tiers, plus a Free Play where the Grand Number is your only match. Tiers, values, odds and the for-life option (or single cash payout) follow the Daily Grand Game Conditions.

Every prize is subject to validation against the central gaming system before it is paid. A play must meet all applicable rules to win. A prize is not payable where the play was not recorded on the central system, was bought in breach of section 3, was produced by an error or malfunction (section 21), or where the claim is otherwise invalid under the Game Conditions.

Where more than one play wins the same for-life tier in the same draw, that tier is paid only as the single cash payout, divided in accordance with the Game Conditions.

11. How a "for life" prize is paid

A "for life" prize is an annuity, not a lump sum. The essential terms are:

  • Frequency. The Grand Prize of $1,000 a day is paid in periodic instalments — not literally once per day — under the schedule set out in the Game Conditions, with the first instalment following validation of the claim. The Second Prize of $25,000 a year is paid annually.
  • Minimum guaranteed period. Payments are guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years from the date the annuity starts, regardless of how long the winner lives.
  • Death of the winner. If the winner dies before the end of the guaranteed period, the remaining guaranteed payments are paid to the winner's named beneficiary or, failing that, to the winner's estate. If the winner dies after the guaranteed period has ended, payments stop.
  • The cash alternative. A single cash payout may be taken instead — $7,000,000 for the Grand Prize, $500,000 for the Second Prize. The election between the annuity and the cash payout must be made at the time of claim and is final and irrevocable. It cannot be changed later, and an annuity already in payment cannot be converted to cash.
  • Assignment. An annuity may not be sold, assigned, pledged or used as security, except where the Game Conditions expressly permit it.

12. Claiming a prize

How a prize is paid depends on its size:

Prize amountHow it is paid
Up to $1,000Credited automatically to the player account after the draw is validated.
$1,000 to $10,000Credited to the account after review, or paid by cheque or transfer where we require it.
Over $10,000, and all for-life prizesTreated as a major prize: claimed in person or by an appointment-based process with us, with full identity verification and a signed declaration before payment.

These thresholds follow our published claim procedure and may change; the current published procedure applies. Prizes are paid in Canadian dollars to the verified account holder only, and never to a third party.

For the step-by-step process, see our How to claim a prize page.

13. Prize expiry

Daily Grand prizes expire one year after the date of the draw in which they were won. A claim made after that date will not be paid, whatever the reason for the delay. Unclaimed prize money is dealt with in accordance with the Game Conditions and applicable law.

The same one-year period applies to a Free Play that has been won but not used, measured from the draw in which it was won.

Check your plays promptly. We are not obliged to remind you that a prize is about to expire, and a failure to notify you does not extend the period.

14. Publicity & use of your name

Publication of winner information is a condition of receiving a major prize, not an optional extra. By claiming a prize above the major-prize threshold, you consent to us and the Province publishing your full name, your city or town of residence, the game, the prize amount and a photograph, and to their use in media announcements and on official channels.

This requirement exists so that the public can verify that prizes are genuinely paid. Requests for anonymity are considered only in exceptional circumstances — for example a documented safety risk — and are decided at our discretion. If you are unwilling to be identified, you should not play.

15. Tax

Lottery winnings are treated as windfalls in Canada and are not subject to income tax when received. However, income earned on your winnings after you receive them is taxable — including interest, dividends, rent and capital gains on anything you buy with the money. Instalments of a for-life annuity may also have tax consequences depending on how the annuity is structured.

Gifting winnings, moving them abroad, or holding them in a corporation or trust can each change the tax position. This is general information, not tax advice. Get independent advice from a qualified adviser about your own circumstances, and about any obligations outside Canada if you are taxed elsewhere.

16. Free Play

A line that matches the Grand Number with none of the five main numbers wins a Free Play. The Free Play is applied automatically as a line in the next draw and has no cash value on its own.

17. Deposits, withdrawals & refunds

Player funds are held in your player account. The terms below describe how that account works.

  • Methods. Deposits and withdrawals are made using the methods offered at the time — Visa, Mastercard and iDebit. Not every method supports withdrawals.
  • In your own name. Payment instruments must belong to the account holder. Third-party cards, accounts and wallets are not accepted, and funds received from one may be returned or frozen pending investigation.
  • Minimums and maximums. Minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts and any per-transaction or periodic maximums are shown at the point of transaction and may change.
  • Timing. Deposits are usually available immediately. Withdrawals are processed after verification checks; where all checks are already complete, requests are normally actioned within 3 business days, after which the time to reach you depends on your payment provider.
  • Fees. We do not charge a fee for a standard deposit or withdrawal. Your bank or card issuer may charge its own fees, and currency conversion is at their rates. Those charges are yours.
  • Closed-loop returns. Withdrawals are returned to the source of the deposit wherever possible.
  • Refunds. An unused deposited balance may be withdrawn at any time, subject to verification. Money already staked cannot be refunded. Once a play has been entered into a draw, it is not refundable — including where you later regret the purchase, exceed your own budget, or change your mind before the draw. The only exceptions are a cancelled draw (section 9) and an error or malfunction (section 21).
  • No banking service. A player account is for play. It does not pay interest and may not be used to store, move or transfer money for any other purpose. Depositing and then withdrawing without meaningful play may be treated as suspicious activity under section 6.

18. Chargebacks

If you dispute a payment with your bank or card issuer instead of raising it with us, the following applies. The account is suspended immediately while the dispute is investigated, and play and withdrawals are blocked. The disputed amount, plus any fee charged to us by the payment network, becomes a debt owed by you and may be recovered from your account balance or from any prize otherwise payable to you.

A chargeback found to be unjustified is grounds for permanent closure of the account under section 20, and for reporting to the payment networks and, where fraud is suspected, to law enforcement. If you think a payment is wrong, contact us first — a genuine error is resolved faster that way than through a chargeback.

19. Inactive & dormant accounts

An account with no login, deposit, play or withdrawal for 12 consecutive months is treated as inactive. Before any consequence follows, we will attempt to contact you at the email address on file at least 30 days beforehand.

An account with no such activity for 36 consecutive months is treated as dormant and may be closed. Any remaining balance stays yours: it is returned to you where you can be located and verified, and otherwise dealt with as unclaimed property in accordance with applicable B.C. law. A balance is never simply forfeited to us.

Logging in is enough to reset the clock. Keep your contact details current so that notices reach you.

20. Closing an account

By you. You may close your account at any time, for any reason, by asking us. Any withdrawable balance is returned once verification is complete. Closing an account is not the same as self-exclusion: if you want to be blocked from playing, use Game Break (section 24). Records are retained after closure for the periods set out in our Privacy Policy, because law requires it.

By us. An account may be suspended or closed on written notice where:

  • you are not, or are no longer, eligible under section 3;
  • identity verification cannot be completed, or documents provided are false or altered;
  • you hold more than one account, or operate an account for someone else;
  • you are enrolled in Game Break or another self-exclusion program;
  • a source-of-funds request under section 6 is refused or unanswered;
  • section 22 (prohibited use) is breached;
  • a chargeback is raised without justification;
  • required by law, by a court, or by a direction from the regulator; or
  • there are reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, collusion or money laundering.

Where an account is closed, the withdrawable balance is returned to you, except for amounts that are the subject of an investigation, that are recoverable as a debt, or that are void because they arose from a breach of these terms. Plays already validly entered into a draw that has not yet taken place remain valid unless they are void under section 3 or 22.

21. Errors & malfunctions

An error voids the play and the pay. Where a technical fault, software defect, human error, data-transmission failure, pricing error or display error results in a play, an odds figure, a result, a prize amount or an account balance that does not match the Game Conditions and the central gaming system, the affected transaction is void — whether or not either party noticed at the time.

In that case: an incorrectly recorded play is refunded rather than paid; an amount credited in error may be reversed or recovered as a debt, including from a later prize; and a prize announced or displayed in error is not payable, because entitlement comes from the validated central record and not from what a screen showed.

If you notice an obvious error in your favour, tell us. Deliberately exploiting a known error is a breach of section 22.

22. Prohibited use

You must not:

  • open or use more than one account, or use another person's account or identity;
  • use a VPN, proxy, remote desktop, location spoofing or any other means to disguise or misrepresent where you are, or to appear to be in British Columbia when you are not;
  • use bots, scripts, automation, macros or any automated system to register, play, scrape, monitor or interact with the service;
  • scrape, harvest, crawl, mirror, cache or bulk-download this site or its data other than by a search engine obeying our robots.txt, or reuse its content commercially without written permission;
  • act as part of a syndicate, pool or group play arrangement that is not expressly permitted by the Game Conditions, or buy plays on behalf of others;
  • buy plays with funds that are not your own, or that come from crime;
  • collude with other players, or exploit a bug, error or loophole rather than reporting it;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, probe or test the security of the service, or interfere with its operation; or
  • use the service if you are excluded under section 3, or on behalf of someone who is.

Breach voids the plays concerned and any prize arising from them, and is grounds for closing the account under section 20. Where the law has been broken, the matter may be referred to the regulator or to police.

23. Service availability

We do not guarantee that this site and the play platform will be available without interruption or free of errors. Access may be suspended or restricted at any time — with notice where practicable, and without notice where it is not.

Planned maintenance is normally carried out in low-traffic periods and announced in advance on the site where practicable. Unplanned outages — caused by faults, third-party provider failures, network problems, security incidents or regulatory direction — can happen at any time and may last as long as it takes to resolve them safely.

An outage does not extend a draw cut-off. If you cannot reach the service before the cut-off for any reason, including an outage at either end, your play goes into the following draw or is not entered at all. Buy early rather than close to the cut-off. We are not liable for a play that was not entered in time, and there is no compensation for a missed draw.

24. Responsible gambling

You can set deposit, spend and time limits in your player account. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising or removing one takes effect only after a delay of at least 24 hours. You can also take a short cooling-off period, or step away through Game Break, B.C.'s voluntary self-exclusion program.

See our Responsible Gaming page for the tools, the real odds and where to get help. Gambling Support BC is free and confidential, 24 hours a day, on 1-888-795-6111.

25. Privacy

How personal information is handled is set out in our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy, which form part of these terms.

26. Intellectual property

The content, design, text, layout and code of this site are protected by copyright and other rights and remain ours or our licensors'. You may view and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish, resell, adapt, frame or systematically extract them without written permission. "Daily Grand", "Lotto Max", "Lotto 6/49", "BCLC", "PlayNow" and "GameSense" are trademarks of BCLC, ILC or their respective owners, and may not be used without permission.

27. Limitation of liability

Nothing in this section limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited — including your rights under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (B.C.) and other applicable B.C. consumer protection law. Those rights are not affected by these terms.

Subject to that:

  • This site is provided "as is" and "as available". We give no warranty that its content is complete, current or error-free, and it is not legal, financial or tax advice.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including lost profits, lost opportunity, lost data, loss of anticipated winnings, loss of a chance to win, business interruption, or damage to reputation — whether or not the possibility was foreseeable or we were told of it.
  • Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or connected with this site or these terms, however caused and whether in contract, tort (including negligence), statute or otherwise, is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) CAD $500. This cap does not apply to a validated prize that is properly payable to you under the Game Conditions.
  • We are not liable for the acts or omissions of ILC, payment providers or any other third party, nor for the content of any site we link to.
  • We are not liable for a prize that is not payable because the play was not validly recorded on the central gaming system, was void under these terms or the Game Conditions, or was claimed after it expired under section 13.

28. Complaints & escalation

If something has gone wrong, tell us — most problems are resolved at the first step. Every complaint, whatever it is about, follows the same three stages:

  1. Stage 1 — us. Email support@dailygrandcontest.co with what happened, when, and what outcome you want. We acknowledge within 2 business days and give a substantive written reply within 10 business days. If we need longer, we will say so and why, and we will not exceed 30 days in total.
  2. Stage 2 — internal review. If our reply does not resolve it, ask for a review within 30 days of receiving it. The review is carried out by someone not involved in the original decision, and you receive a final written response within a further 15 business days, setting out our position and your right to escalate.
  3. Stage 3 — the regulator. If you remain dissatisfied, you can take the matter to the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO), the independent regulator of gambling in British Columbia, at igcobc.ca. The IGCO handles complaints about the conduct of gambling in B.C. under the Gaming Control Act (B.C.).

Privacy complaints follow the route in our Privacy Policy and can be taken to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia. Full details, including what to include, are on our Complaints page.

29. Force majeure

Neither party is liable for failing to perform, or for delay in performing, any obligation under these terms where the cause is beyond its reasonable control — including natural disaster, fire, flood, earthquake, severe weather, epidemic or pandemic, war, terrorism, civil unrest, labour dispute, failure of power, telecommunications or internet infrastructure, cyber attack, failure of a third-party supplier, or any act, order or restriction of government or a regulator.

The affected obligations are suspended for as long as the event continues, and the party affected will take reasonable steps to resume. Where a draw is affected, section 9 applies. If the event continues for more than 60 days, either party may end the agreement by written notice, and amounts paid for anything not delivered are refunded.

30. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Any change takes effect when posted here with a new version number and "last updated" date.

For a material change — one that materially reduces your rights or increases your obligations — we will give at least 30 days' notice before it takes effect, by notice on this site and, where we hold your email address, by email. If you do not accept a material change, stop using the site before it takes effect; continuing to use it afterwards means you accept it. Changes required by law or by the regulator may take effect immediately, and we will say so when we post them.

31. Assignment, severability & entire agreement

  • Assignment. You may not assign, transfer or sub-contract your rights or obligations under these terms, in whole or in part, to anyone. Any attempt to do so is void. We may assign or transfer ours on notice to you, for example on a reorganisation, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Severability. If any provision is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, it is severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions stay in full force. Where possible, the severed provision is read down rather than removed, so as to give effect to the original intent.
  • Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about this site and your player account, and replace all earlier understandings, representations and statements about it — except that nothing here excludes liability for fraudulent misrepresentation. They do not affect the documents listed in section 2.
  • No waiver. A delay or failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it, and a single or partial exercise does not prevent further exercise.
  • No third-party rights. No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
  • Headings. Section headings are for convenience and do not affect interpretation.

32. Language of the agreement

These terms are provided in English. Any translation that may be made available is for convenience only; the English version governs. This does not affect any right to French-language services where required by law.

33. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada, including the Gaming Control Act (B.C.), under which gambling in the province is regulated by the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO). You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia, without prejudice to any right you have to bring proceedings in the province where you are resident if a mandatory law gives you that right.
